Lebanese Army Enforces Resolution 1701, Expands Deployment in South

The Lebanese Army has begun implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and related government-approved decisions in the region south of the Litani River, security sources told Nidaa Al-Watan.

The army’s presence in the area is being significantly reinforced, with additional troops deployed and positions strengthened, the sources noted.

As part of its operations, the Lebanese Army has entered the town of Khiyam, where it has reopened roads and confiscated weapon stockpiles and munitions. The move is part of a broader strategy to ensure that only Lebanese Army weapons remain in the area.

The sources highlighted the army commander’s firm commitment to enforcing the agreement, stressing that Lebanon’s adherence to the accord is vital for national security. They warned that any failure to comply could create opportunities for further Israeli aggression.

According to the sources, Hezbollah leaders have assured the army commander of their cooperation to accelerate the mission and their commitment to the signed agreement. The group has reportedly shown flexibility, dismissing rumors of any attempts to impose conditions on the army’s leadership.

Support for the army’s mission was prominently displayed in Shebaa, where locals raised posters of the army commander as a show of solidarity. This gesture reflects the residents' confidence in the Lebanese Army as the sole legitimate authority capable of ensuring their safety and upholding the rule of law.
