Kataeb Slams Ongoing Iranian Meddling, Reaffirms State's Exclusive Authority Over Lebanese Affairs

The Kataeb’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel and issued the following statement after reviewing the latest developments:

1. The Political Bureau considers the efforts led by the President of the Republic and the government to secure a cessation of hostilities—particularly following the joint statement issued after last week’s round of negotiations in Washington—the only viable path toward restoring stability and bringing the war and its consequences to a definitive end.

The positions recently voiced by both the President and the Prime Minister mark a turning point in the State’s approach, reaffirming Lebanon’s right to make its own sovereign decisions and underscoring that the management of Lebanese affairs rests exclusively with Lebanon’s constitutional institutions.

2. The Political Bureau condemns remarks made by Iranian officials targeting President Joseph Aoun, saying they constitute not only an affront to the presidency but also a direct insult to the Lebanese people, the Lebanese State, and its constitutional institutions. Such statements go against the most basic principles governing relations between sovereign nations.

The sovereign stance adopted by the Lebanese State has helped restore Lebanon’s independent decision-making authority and reaffirmed the exclusive right of State institutions to shape national policies and manage foreign relations in accordance with the country’s highest national interests.

3. Lebanon’s Shiite community is paying a heavy price as a result of the policies that Hezbollah has drawn it into, amid the displacement, destruction, and extensive losses affecting southern Lebanon and other regions.

The voices of free and independant Lebanon across Lebanon—particularly those in the South who continue to advocate for the authority of the Lebanese state and reject subordination to Iranian directives—should serve as a catalyst for all political, social, and civic forces to rally behind state efforts to reclaim occupied territory, launch reconstruction, and facilitate the return of residents to their towns and villages.

In this context, the Bureau welcomes the message delivered at the recent spiritual summit held at the Druze community’s headquarters, praising its emphasis on shared national values and its call to prioritize dialogue within constitutional institutions over any alternative approach.

4. The Political Bureau describes the reactivation of President Rene Mouawad Airport in Qlayaat as a significant milestone in reinforcing the State’s role in directing Lebanon’s development priorities and strengthening citizens’ sense of national belonging.

The move crowns a long campaign in which the Kataeb Party played a central role. The party had been at the forefront of political, parliamentary, and media efforts to reactivate the airport during the first phase of the so-called support war, leading a sustained campaign aimed at bringing the strategic facility back into operation.
