The Political Bureau of the Kataeb Party held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel. Following discussions on the latest political and security developments, it issued the following statement:
1. The Political Bureau considers the framework agreement announced in Washington to be a national milestone that embodies the principles the Kataeb Party has advocated for years. It reaffirms the Lebanese State's ability—under the leadership of the President of the Republic and the Lebanese Army—to safeguard Lebanon's interests when it assumes responsibility for negotiating and defending the country's rights.
Although the agreement was reached under difficult circumstances, it opens the way for an Israeli withdrawal, reconstruction efforts, the release of detainees, and the restoration of full Lebanese sovereignty through the deployment of the Lebanese Army across the entire country. It also marks an end to Lebanon's entanglement in the Iranian project, which has brought occupation and destruction upon the country.
The Political Bureau stresses that the agreement's success will ultimately depend on its proper implementation and on the existence of the political will to protect the State and reject any attempt to obstruct this course. The alternative would be continued occupation, destruction, and Lebanon remaining hostage to illegal weapons.
2. The Political Bureau considers that the threats of sectarian strife and civil war voiced by the so-called "Axis of Resistance" camp amount to nothing more than calls for rebellion against the Lebanese State.
The process of restoring State authority, led by the President of the Republic, is grounded in the constitution, State institutions, and the will of the Lebanese people to establish a sovereign State that alone holds the authority to make decisions and bear arms.
Any attempt to impose realities outside the framework of State legitimacy or derail this process is destined to fail in the face of the Lebanese people's commitment to their state and constitutional institutions.
3. The Political Bureau welcomes the government's decision to suspend fees related to the waste management plan and called for continued efforts to address the economic and social consequences of the war.
It urges stronger oversight of prices and called for measures to ease the burden on citizens, particularly with regard to fuel costs and the prices of essential goods and services.
