The Kataeb's political bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel, and after discussing the recent developments, issued the following statement:
1- The Kataeb Party strongly rejects the intimidation of Lebanese citizens in secure areas as a means to send political messages, whether directed at the Prime Minister-designate or the President of the Republic.
It condemns the daily provocations occurring across various regions—from the south to Beirut and Mount Lebanon—through shameful motorcades marked by sectarian slogans and reckless gunfire. Such actions threaten civil peace, destabilize the country, and drive away potential investments, with early signs of these consequences already emerging.
Accordingly, the Kataeb Party calls on security and judicial authorities to fulfill their responsibilities and put an end to these practices, which fuel sectarian tensions and push the nation toward chaos—chaos desired only by those with a destructive and exclusionary mindset.
2- The Kataeb Political Bureau calls for the formation of a government based on constitutional consultations between political blocs and the Prime Minister-designate. It warns against any conditions or privileges granted to any faction, particularly those tied to obstructive mechanisms established by the Doha Agreement and past practices, such as the Finance Minister's signature authority, the monopolization of sectarian representation, or the threat of a blocking third.
Past experiences have demonstrated that these obstructive tools have paralyzed institutions, hindered investigations into the Beirut Port explosion case, toppled governments, and overturned election outcomes.
Therefore, the Kataeb Party urges President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam not to succumb to blatant and chronic obstruction.
It calls for inclusive participation based on equality under the constitution and the law, as the Lebanese people aspire to a new phase of diligent and responsible efforts to rescue the nation.
3- The Kataeb Party emphasizes that any attempt by Hezbollah to restore its standing after its political and military failures—whether through media pressure or attacks on public freedoms—is completely unacceptable. The latest incident involved the physical assault on the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) team, following a similar attack on an MTV crew. Media plays a vital role in promoting freedom, conveying the truth, and documenting the return of southern residents to their villages.
The Kataeb Political Bureau reaffirms its full solidarity with media institutions and their personnel, stressing that the genuine path for Hezbollah to regain its legitimacy lies in returning to the authority of the state and adhering to the law, rather than defying it or provoking institutions' citizens.
