The Kataeb's Political Bureau, chaired by party leader Samy Gemayel, convened its weekly meeting to discuss the latest political and security developments in the country, and issued the following statement:
1. The bureau welcomes the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador, describing it as a justified response to repeated violations of international conventions and agreements governing diplomatic relations. The party considers the move a step toward reinforcing Lebanon’s sovereignty, emphasizing that it should be followed by the full enforcement of State authority across all Lebanese territory.
2. The bureau stresses the importance of the Lebanese Armed Forces continuing its mission to disarm illegal armed groups and prevent unauthorized military activity, particularly operations conducted by the outlawed Hezbollah. It calls for operations to begin in areas where the army can act effectively and to gradually extend across the country, ensuring the State’s sovereignty and unified security and military command.
3. The Political Bureau urges the Ministers of Interior and Defense to implement a comprehensive security deployment plan throughout Lebanon to reassure citizens. Measures should include checkpoints, enhanced inspections, and increased military and security presence in all regions. The bureau emphasizes the need to monitor shelters and sites housing displaced persons, safeguarding both residents and host communities, while preventing any security exploitation.
4. Regarding the proposed plan to establish a displacement center in Karantina, the bureau expresses support for Kataeb’s initiative, led by MP Nadim Gemayel, to engage with the Prime Minister to reconsider the site’s intended use. The party calls for the facility’s purpose to be clearly defined and communicated transparently, in order to alleviate public concerns and dispel related fears.
