The Kataeb's political bureau, chaired by party leader Samy Gemayel, convened its weekly meeting to discuss recent developments and issued the following statement:
1. The bureau condemns Iran’s decision to maintain its ambassador in Lebanon despite the Lebanese government declaring him persona non grata, calling it a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The bureau urges the Lebanese authorities to take all necessary measures to expel the ambassador, tighten diplomatic restrictions on Iran, notify the United Nations of this violation, and submit a formal complaint to the UN Security Council regarding Iran’s military and security activities in Lebanon, in order to safeguard the country's sovereignty and uphold international law and diplomatic norms.
2. The bureau warns against the continued expansion of occupation and ongoing conflict, and against ceding to the inability to control illegal military and security activities. It reiterates the need to place Hezbollah’s weapons under state control and fully implement government decisions in this regard, alongside proactive diplomatic efforts to protect Lebanese sovereignty and secure Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
3. The bureau expresses satisfaction with Judge Tarek Bitar’s conclusion of his investigations into the Beirut port explosion. It calls for the swift issuance of an indictment to spare victims’ families from prolonged uncertainty, noting that this step represents a critical milestone toward justice, accountability, and the establishment of the rule of law without threats or intimidation.
4. The bureau urges the relevant authorities to publicly release the results of the investigation into the missile that landed in Keserwan Al-Ftouh last week, including the identity of those responsible for its launch, its intended target, and the full circumstances. Transparency is essential to reassure the Lebanese and reinforce confidence in State institutions.
