Kataeb Party Urges State to End Impunity, Warns Illegal Arms Blocking State-Building

The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by party leader Samy Gemayel. Following discussions on the latest national developments, the Bureau issued the following statement:

1. The Kataeb Political Bureau strongly condemns Hezbollah’s ongoing rhetoric of threats and intimidation against the Lebanese people. The most recent example was the inflammatory statement by the party’s Deputy Official for the Bekaa Region, Faysal Shakar, who brazenly and publicly threatened to "rip out the souls" of Lebanese citizens in what constituted a blatant and dangerous incitement to violence and murder.

The Political Bureau reaffirms its confidence in the Lebanese judiciary to take action against Shakar, based on the legal complaint submitted to the Public Prosecutor by party leader Samy Gemayel. The Bureau demands that the most severe penalties be imposed.

Those who threaten to kill Lebanese citizens simply because they are demanding the establishment of a sovereign and functioning state must be held accountable. Anyone who believes they can subjugate the Lebanese people through weapons and intimidation will face justice. There will be no tolerance for a culture of impunity and fear. Lebanon cannot be built on threats and inequality among its citizens.

In this context, the Kataeb Political Bureau calls on the Lebanese state to fully assume its responsibilities and enforce disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese factions and militias, without distinction or classification, placing them exclusively in the hands of legitimate Lebanese armed forces.

The Bureau stresses that illegal arms and the power imbalance they perpetuate are the primary obstacles to building a just and functioning state. They hinder the establishment of equal rights among citizens, obstruct Lebanon’s ability to foster sound relations with international partners, and block the path to economic recovery that the country urgently needs. The recent outcry from the Minister of Agriculture during a Cabinet session offers a small but telling glimpse into the many opportunities lost due to this prevailing reality.

The Political Bureau further emphasizes that any talk of annexing Lebanon to another country is absolutely unacceptable and has no place in national discourse. Lebanon’s 10,452 square kilometers constitute a final, indivisible homeland, as stipulated in Paragraph A of the Constitution’s preamble. No piece of Lebanese land will be conceded, regardless of any pressures, deals, or circumstances. Lebanon’s history, both distant and recent, stands as proof of this unshakable truth.

2. The Political Bureau welcomes the judicial, financial, and media appointments recently approved by the Cabinet, expressing hope that these moves will pave the way for a broader and faster implementation of much-needed reforms.

The bureau also commends Justice Minister Adel Nassar for his serious and principled approach in handling judicial appointments, particularly his steadfast position on the appointment of the Financial Prosecutor; a file that has now been closed in accordance with applicable laws.

The Political Bureau urges the Parliament's Administration and Justice Committee to swiftly pass the draft law on judicial independence, in order to reinforce the positive momentum currently seen in the judicial sector.

Furthermore, the Bureau considers the appointment of the Higher Banking Commission, the new Deputy Governors of the Central Bank, and the Financial Prosecutor as foundational steps toward launching audits of both Banque du Liban and the broader banking sector, ultimately paving the way for the return of depositors’ funds.
