Kataeb Party Ties Stability to Negotiations, Endorses President’s Role in Managing Talks

The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel to reviewi the latest political and security developments in Lebanon. Following deliberations, the bureau issued the following statement:

1. The bureau reaffirms its support for President Joseph Aoun in the ongoing negotiation process, expressing confidence in his handling of the talks in line with constitutional requirements and Lebanon’s national interests. These include halting attacks, securing the release of detainees, ensuring an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, advancing reconstruction efforts, and facilitating the return of displaced persons.

The bureau also calls for the implementation of government decisions and the immediate start of efforts to place all weapons under State control, alongside dismantling the security and military structure of the outlawed Hezbollah militia. These steps are essential and indispensable for the success of negotiations and for reviving the country’s economy.

2. The Political Bureau condemns campaigns of incitement, accusations of treason, and hate rhetoric, which it said are being waged by the outlawed Hezbollah militia. It cited recent attacks targeting the president, the prime minister, and Maronite Patriarch Bechara Boutros al-Rahi. This campaign —particularly the one targeting al-Rahi and aimed at provoking sectarian strife— had failed, instead prompting widespread national solidarity with the Maronite Patriarchate. This nationwide response shows that attempts to divert attention from core issues are no longer effective, and that many Lebanese reject ongoing violations of the constitution, laws, and established state authority.

In the same context, the bureau condemns a recent attack on Our Lady Church in Ajaltoun and calls on security forces to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

3. Coexistence with Hezbollah’s weapons is no longer viable, as the past experience has shown such arms bring only risks, destruction, occupation, and recurring crises to Lebanon, in service of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
