Kataeb Party Says Remnants of Power Have Surrendered the Country to Gangs and Militias, Calls for Political Decision to Secure the Nation

The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1- Amidst the significant escalation witnessed in the region in recent days, Lebanon finds itself in the midst of a high-stakes tug-of-war that places its destiny in jeopardy, being held hostage to decisions and sovereignty compromised by Hezbollah's insistence on engaging in a resistance agenda that evidently serves its own interests, unrelated to Palestine or its people.

Today, more than ever, there is a critical need for awareness of the dangers of this phase and to prevent any attempts to drag the country and its people into an abyss from which no one will emerge unscathed.

The remnants of power, instead of indulging in sessions that undermine democratic life and time-worn consultations, are urged to reclaim their decision-making power and authority, and restore to the Lebanese their kidnapped nation.

2- The Kataeb Political Bureau extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of martyr Pascal Sleiman, appreciating the swift action of the security agencies in tracking down the criminals and apprehending some of them.

It believes that this crime could have been avoided through a political decision to secure the borders, a responsibility that has been neglected due to the state's abandonment of its duties, allowing the country's fate to fall into the hands of gangs and militias that operate without accountability.

3-  The Kataeb Political Bureau regrets the sectarian rhetoric expressed by Grand Jaafari mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qabalan in Eid al-Fitr sermon, before retracting it to reassure Christians that there is no substitute for them.

In this context, the Kataeb Party emphasizes its role as a founder of this country, with a struggle that has always been for all Lebanese of all sects without discrimination.

It asserts that Christians do not need reassurance, as the constitution is sufficient to reassure everyone, affirming that coexistence is built on equality in duties and rights, respect for others' histories, and acceptance of differing opinions. This means standing together against anything that threatens this coexistence, from weapons in the hands of one group over another, to continual denigration, to monopolizing major decisions, to attempting to impose one group's will over another.
