The Kataeb's political bureau convened its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel to discuss the latest developments. At the conclusion of its deliberations, it issued the following statement:
1. The political bureau considers that President Joseph Aoun’s position reflects the will of the Lebanese people, who reject any attempt by the outlawed Hezbollah militia to unilaterally impose its will on the country in service of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Lebanon’s roadmap toward peace is now being translated into action through a negotiation track launched under Arab and international auspices.
The bureau calls for creating the necessary conditions to bring these efforts to a successful conclusion by securing a full Israeli withdrawal, ending hostilities, ensuring the release of detainees, formally ending the state of war, deploying the Lebanese Armed Forces across the country, and initiating a comprehensive reconstruction process.
2. The political bureau also addressed remarks by Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem, considering that they amount to a continued assault on the authority of the State and its institutions, and a flagrant attempt to impose his will through arms that the Lebanese government has declared illegal. It is unacceptable for national decision-making to remain hijacked or for Lebanon’s future to be tied to Iran’s conditions and interests in its negotiations with the United States, while the Lebanese people alone bear the consequences of this dependency.
The bureau reiterates that Lebanon’s recovery hinges on the full implementation of international resolutions—particularly UN Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701—and on placing all weapons under the exclusive authority of the State. The record leaves no doubt that militia weapons have never protected Lebanon, but have instead dragged it into destruction, opened the door to recurring conflicts, and effectively reproduced conditions of occupation.
3. The political bureau expresses deep concern over a series of ongoing security incidents and calls on the Lebanese Armed Forces and security agencies to enforce order with greater rigor, pursue violators without leniency, and hold accountable anyone who oversteps the bounds of State authority. In this context, the bureau urges decisive and uncompromising action against any threats to national stability.
4. The political bureau warns the government of mounting risks to economic and social stability, calling for urgent measures to prevent the exploitation of worsening living conditions to inflame internal tensions. It also stresses the need for immediate action, particularly stricter price controls. The bureau considers that any meaningful economic recovery remains contingent on ending the war and addressing its broader consequences.
