Kataeb Party Reaffirms Openness to Dialogue After State Secures Monopoly on Arms

The Kataeb’s political bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel and, after discussing the latest developments, issued the following statement:

The political bureau stresses that dialogue in Lebanon is welcome when its purpose is to strengthen the concept of the nation and consolidate State institutions. However, any discussion that seeks to revisit or undermine the principle that arms must remain solely in the hands of the State, and that its authority must extend across all Lebanese territory, cannot be described as dialogue. This principle, the bureau says, is not a political option but a constitutional duty, enshrined in both Lebanese law and international agreements. Placing it on the negotiating table would represent a clear departure from the very foundations of the State.

The bureau notes that the Kataeb Party, which was the first to call for a conference of truth and reconciliation among the Lebanese, remains open to any invitation to dialogue, but only after weapons are placed under the exclusive authority of the State. At that point, dialogue would become a natural step toward rebuilding the nation and strengthening the foundations of statehood and sovereignty.

The party also voices full confidence that the process launched by the government to bring all arms under State authority and enforce the law across all Lebanese territory will move forward at the upcoming Cabinet session, with the adoption of an operational plan to be presented by the army command. This would mark a serious step toward restoring sovereignty and reinforcing State institutions.

The bureau welcomes the beginning of the handover of weapons from the camps, being a long-awaited issue that, in the past, brought tragedy and claimed a heavy toll, particularly on the Kataeb Party. There can be no genuine stability without ensuring that arms are held exclusively by the State in every part of the country.

Alongside the process of asserting internal sovereignty, the Kataeb Party urges the international community to press Israel to withdraw from occupied Lebanese territory, release prisoners and detainees, and halt its repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty, in compliance with international resolutions.
