Kataeb Party Pushes for Expat Voting Reform, Says Political Courage Needed to Save Lebanon

The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Party Leader Samy Gemayel to discuss the latest political and security developments in the country. Following the meeting, the Bureau issued the following statement:

1. The Political Bureau calls on the Cabinet to take a firm position this week on the draft law allowing Lebanese expatriates to vote for all 128 members of Parliament and to promptly refer it to the legislature for approval at the earliest opportunity. Such a move would reaffirm equality between Lebanese citizens both at home and abroad and uphold their constitutional right to participate in the nation’s political life.

In this context, the Kataeb Party urges expatriates to step up voter registration ahead of the November 20 deadline, stressing their essential role in driving change and accountability and rejecting any attempts to hinder or diminish their national influence.

2. The Political Bureau also calls on constitutional authorities to expedite the enforcement of laws and to reassert the State’s authority across all Lebanese territory, while taking a sovereign and unambiguous stance in engaging with regional and international mediation efforts aimed at consolidating stability.

The party believes Lebanon stands at a critical crossroads that requires political courage and sound decision-making to spare the country further destruction and futile conflicts. It urges leaders to pursue lasting peace under the exclusive authority of the State and its legitimate institutions.

The Bureau further stresses that joining the region’s emerging economic trajectory must be treated as a top national priority, warning that any delay in achieving political and security stability would mean squandering a historic opportunity that may not come again in the foreseeable future.
