The Kataeb Foreign Affairs Department participated in the Political Assembly (PA) of the European People's Party (EPP), a partner of the Lebanese Kataeb Party since 2016, at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The PA included a special session for non-EU parties to present an overview of their countries' situations and articulate their views on the European policy towards them.
During the session, Head of Kataeb’s Foreign Affairs Department Marwan Abdallah delivered a speech focusing on three key points, highlighting priorities for resolving the crisis in Lebanon.
The first point focused on addressing the issue of Iranian influence exerted on Lebanon through Hezbollah and its control over Lebanese decision-making, dragging the country into regional conflicts.
It highlighted the need to support Lebanon’s neutrality from the regional conflicts through diplomatic channels and international pressure on Iran and Hezbollah.
Secondly, supporting the initiation of the political process in Lebanon, by pressuring the parties obstructing the democratic process of electing a new President of the Republic. This entails restoring Public Institutions with the support of the EU to reach a road map for the state rebuilding, which marks the beginning of re-establishing rule of law.
Thirdly, assisting Lebanon in reaching a solution to the Syrian refugees issue, while concurrently striving to facilitate their safe return to their homeland. This involves supporting the Lebanese economy alongside efforts to address the refugee crisis.
The Kataeb Party also participated in side meetings with several parties, including the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Germany and the "Forza Italia" party.
Additionally, there were discussions with members of various parties, focusing on the necessity of standing by Lebanon and providing support.
During the visit, Kataeb Belgium Chapter organized a dinner attended by Kataeb Political Bureau Member Ghassan Abou Jaoudeh as well as Head of Kataeb Foreign Affairs Department Marwan Abdallah; where the attendees discussed the recent developments in Lebanon and the importance of the role of the Lebanese diaspora.
