The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel and issued the following statement after discussing recent developments and events from the past week:
1. The Political Bureau believes that the time has come for serious action to implement the commitments outlined in the President's inaugural speech as well as in the government's ministerial statement. The Lebanese people expect swift and concrete measures to turn these commitments into actions. The Political Bureau sees President Joseph Aoun’s diplomatic outreach—his visit to Saudi Arabia and participation in the Arab Summit in Cairo—as a key step in reconnecting Lebanon with its natural regional environment and allies. These efforts, the party argues, will enable Lebanon to reclaim its historical role and secure and secure a presence at regional discussions about its own future and that of the broader region.
2. The Political Bureau reaffirms its support for Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel’s bold call for a national conference on truth and reconciliation during the recent parliamentary sessions aimed at debating the government's ministerial statement. The party considers this initiative a fundamental step toward addressing past grievances and ushering the country into a new era built on shared national foundations. It calls for this conference to be held under the patronage of the President of the Republic and within the framework of Parliament.
In line with its leader’s position, the Kataeb Party stresses that true reconciliation is only possible through full equality among all Lebanese under the law and the Constitution. This means there must be no weapons outside the State’s authority, no decision-making beyond State institutions, and no foreign allegiance that undermine Lebanese sovereignty. Without these principles, Lebanon will remain locked in a cycle of wars and crises.
3. The Kataeb Party underscores the importance of holding municipal and mayoral elections as scheduled, particularly in light of recent developments. It calls on its supporters and allies to engage fully in the process, both as candidates and voters, given the vital role local authorities play in addressing citizens’ needs. Municipal councils have repeatedly proven their effectiveness, particularly during Lebanon’s successive crises, providing further proof of the necessity of decentralization. The party maintains that decentralization remains the only viable solution to achieving balanced development, free from the inefficiencies and favoritism of the centralized system.
