Kataeb Party Names Nawaf Salam for Premiership

Kataeb Party Bloc including Samy Gemayel, Nadim Gemayel, Elias Hankache, and Selim Sayegh has voted for Nawaf Salam for the Prime Minister-designate position in the binding consultations at Baabda Palace.

“In line with the results of the parliamentary elections in which the Lebanese were clear about their desire for change, we are trying as an opposition party to change the ongoing rhetoric by naming a prime minister who has a different vision of managing the economic crisis: Nawaf Salam,” Gemayel said after meeting with the President Michel Aoun in Baabda within the framework of the binding parliamentary consultations.

He called on deputies not to settle for the idea that a government would not be formed prior to the presidential elections.

“Everyone here accepts this reality and works thereupon. I call on deputies to take the elections seriously and to urgently form a government as the country can no longer withstand three months, including but not limited to the Lebanese people, economy, and Lebanese Pound. Living in the same situation for four additional months is a burden,” he noted.

“We are not here to perform manoeuvres. We are honest, clear and committed to keeping our promises and we will remain so during and after the elections,” he affirmed

Gemayel voiced hope that all blocs, really willing for a different approach, would bear that responsibility and start by electing an independent Prime minister who has a different vision.
