The Kataeb's political bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel, and after discussing the recent alarming developments, issued the following statement:
1- More than a month into the devastating conflict unfolding on Lebanese soil—a battle Lebanon wages on behalf of others—it appears that the parties involved remain far from embracing rationality, with escalation dominating both discourse and the field alike.
This relentless aggression is wreaking immense destruction, erasing historic cities whose soil carries a rich Lebanese heritage passed down through generations, leading to the tragic loss of innocent lives, including women, children, and civilians, impacting journalists, the Lebanese Army, and medical teams.
In this context, the Kataeb Political Bureau stresses that any proposed resolutions must only be pursued under the framework of restoring the State's full sovereignty across the entire nation, with all arms solely under the Lebanese Army's authority, the only entity empowered by the Constitution to defend Lebanon and safeguard its people.
It also asserts that any proposal not presented transparently to Parliament and the Lebanese public, reviewed by the government, and formally approved will be categorically rejected, affirming that no settlement will be tolerated at the expense of the Lebanese people, who have endured tremendous hardship.
2- The issue of displaced persons stands among the most critical challenges Lebanon faces, especially now in the aftermath of the ceasefire. This issue requires a fully committed approach due to its looming risks, which extend beyond basic needs such as shelter, clothing, and food.
It calls for urgent solutions and detailed plans to be implemented immediately following the end of hostilities, focusing on village reconstruction and the swift return of displaced persons to their homeland before they become permanent refugees.
This is a scenario Lebanon cannot afford to repeat, given the grave implications it holds for the country’s fragile demographic balance.
The Kataeb Political Bureau urges security forces to strengthen their presence within shelter centers to ensure they remain weapon-free and to prevent any violations or disputes.
Such incidents have already begun to adversely affect relations with host communities, and unchecked, they could escalate into far more severe challenges.
3- The Kataeb Political Bureau expressed concern over the recurring wildfires that year after year, sweep through various cities and towns, devastating the few remaining green spaces and destroying ancient trees that are integral to Lebanon’s natural heritage and identity.
While commending the tremendous efforts of Civil Defense personnel who work tirelessly to extinguish these fires despite severe resource shortages, the Kataeb Political Bureau is deeply concerned by the insufficient attention given by relevant authorities to this critical issue.
In a season marked by both accidental and intentional fires, such negligence should not allow this preventable catastrophe to repeat year after year.
