Kataeb Party Calls for the Election of a President Capable of Addressing the Issue of Hezbollah's Illegal Weapons

Kataeb party deemed the upcoming presidential elections as pivotal stage, whether it would be an extension to the sufferings of the Lebanese or a starting point to liberate and rebuild the State.

“This stage requires concerted efforts of all to elect a new president entrusted with the constitution. He should be capable of making the right decisions, showing a solid conviction and represent the Lebanese in a bid to solve the issue of Hezbollah’s illegal weapons instead of defending it,” read a statement issued by the Kataeb political bureau following its weekly meeting at the party’s headquarters in Saifi.

The Kataeb party warned against rushing to form a government in a deliberate plan to put off the presidential election and plunge the nation into a new political void that it cannot bear.

It also called for a parliamentary session to elect a new president without further delay, followed by the formation of a new effective government that should be capable of adopting a clear plan to save the country from collapse instead of being distracted by random budgets.

The political bureau also voiced it optimism over the unity of the opposition, which confronted a budget that would have constituted a real disaster for the Lebanese, hoping that this unity will preserve.

“We, as the Kataeb party, thank all the political, partisan and media figures and diplomats who participated in the fortieth anniversary of the martyrdom of President Bachir Gemayel and his comrades. The ceremony was comprehensive and emphasized Lebanon’s need for a president who unites them with his sincerity and ability to achieve justice,” it noted.

The Kataeb party recalled martyr Antoine Ghanem on his martyrdom anniversary, saying that it will remain faithful to his struggles and sacrifices.
