Kataeb Party Calls for Liberating Lebanon Culturally from the Grip of Resistance's Ignorance

Kataeb Arts and Cultural Affairs Department issued the following statement:

“Yesterday, with great regret, we received the news of the cancellation of a pioneering theatrical work at Mono Theater by writer Wajdi Mouawad, which was scheduled to be performed in a few days. This decision came after the theater and those responsible for the production were subjected to a barrage of threats and complaints, under pretexts commonly used by the audience of the resistance and the media as well as security circles affiliated with Hezbollah.

This is not the first time nor will it be the last time that this team stands against art, cinema, and theater. Sometimes it is due to "religious and moral" reasons, and other times because of accusations of collaboration or suspicious relationships, always under the pretext of boycotting Israel, despite Israel having no connection whatsoever, directly or indirectly, to this theatrical work.

Kataeb Arts and Cultural Affairs Department will not call on the Ministry of Culture to intervene because it has become a center for Hezbollah, distributing awards exclusively to Iranian writers. Instead, we appeal to international cultural organizations to look and work towards liberating Lebanon culturally from the grip of darkness and ignorance. The incident of banning Fairuz’s songs at the Lebanese University event under the pretext of “singing being forbidden” is not surprising or unexpected to anyone.

On behalf of the Kataeb Party, we offer the organizer of this theatrical work to present it at any suitable theater under our sponsorship and responsibility. Let us stand together in a stance of freedom against attempts of repression, control, and darkness.”
