The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel. Following discussions on recent political and security developments, it issued the following statement:
1. The Political Bureau welcomes the launch of direct negotiations with Israel under U.S. sponsorship, viewing them as the only viable path toward a ceasefire, an end to hostilities, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas in southern Lebanon, the return of displaced residents to their villages, the restoration of stability, and the achievement of lasting peace in Lebanon.
2. The Bureau reiterates the need for the Lebanese State to fully implement its decisions regarding the disarmament of all illegal weapons, the establishment of a State monopoly on arms, and the prohibition of any military or security activity by Hezbollah across Lebanese territory.
It also strongly condemns the campaign of accusations of treason and death threats directed by Hezbollah against the government, including the prime minister, as well as the president of the republic. These actions reflect the State’s progress in reclaiming an independent national decision in foreign policy and separating it from the Iranian–American negotiation track.
3. The Political Bureau welcomes the government’s decision to declare Beirut a weapons-free city and the deployment of the army and security forces throughout the capital. This move has generated broad public reassurance and strengthened confidence in the State’s ability to assert sovereignty and ensure stability.
The party confirms its participation in the conference convened by Beirut MPs in support of government decisions, particularly those taken on 5 and 7 August concerning the monopoly of arms in the hands of the State, as well as the March 2 decision declaring Hezbollah’s military and security activities illegal.
The bureau calls for expanding and reinforcing this deployment to cover all Lebanese territory, in order to protect citizens and safeguard constitutional and state institutions.
4. The Political Bureau urges the swift establishment of the National Drug Agency, the appointment of its members, and the immediate launch of its operations. The agency would be responsible for registering medicines and dietary supplements after verifying their quality and compliance with international standards, as well as monitoring their distribution and pricing, particularly following the issuance of the relevant implementing decrees.
It also stresses the need to adopt unified criteria for patient coverage under the Ministry of Public Health, noting that more than half of Lebanon’s population lacks any form of health insurance, amid economic conditions affecting both resilient residents and displaced populations alike.
