“Annahar” newspaper reported that the Qatari envoy "Jasim bin Fahd Al Thani" ramped up efforts over the last two days, out of spotlight, by holding consultations with various parties.

He met with Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel at the party’s headquarters in Saifi, the report added.

According to the information acquired, the Qatari envoy engaged in discussions regarding the proposed presidential candidates.

Gemayel emphasized his respect for all the suggested candidates, but he also rejected discussing alternative presidential candidates before the withdrawal of Sleiman Frangieh’s candidacy.

Gemayel also stressed that only then, it would be possible to discuss any alternative name or proposal, which would mark a realistic and serious start for the next phase.
