MP Elias Hankach met Tuesday with Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Sami Abi al-Mona at the Druze Community House in Beirut, as part of an outreach initiative aimed at fostering national unity and laying the groundwork for renewed political dialogue.
Hankach was joined by a Kataeb delegation that included Political Bureau members Suheil Hamdan and Rita Boulos, Kataeb's Aley district head Teodora Bejjani, Hankach’s chief of staff Charbel Rustom, and party member Wissam Daou.
During the meeting, Hankach conveyed greetings from Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel and expressed deep appreciation for the unifying role played by Sheikh Abi al-Mona and the Druze religious establishment. The conversation touched on a range of national issues, particularly the need to safeguard stability in the Mount Lebanon region and to support the Kataeb Party’s initiative for a comprehensive national dialogue.
“In times like these, it’s essential to listen to voices of reason and wisdom. We believe Lebanon has a real opportunity to chart a new course; one rooted in shared values, trust, and a state that protects all its citizens equally," Hankach said following the meeting.
He emphasized the historical role of the Kataeb in bridging divides and defending Lebanon’s pluralistic identity, stressing that the party remains committed to engaging constructively across all regions, particularly with municipal elections and other national milestones approaching.
“The Kataeb Party has always been a bridge-builder,” he said. “We want to ensure that everyone in Lebanon feels secure, not through private protection or sectarian alliances, but through the legitimate institutions of the Lebanese state.”
He also noted the strong alignment between Sheikh Abi al-Mona’s vision and that of Samy Gemayel, who has been leading a push for a renewed national dialogue. Gemayel recently launched a political initiative in Parliament, followed by meetings with the presidents of the republic and the parliament, to rally support for a new political framework that addresses long-standing fears and grievances.
“There’s a clear convergence in thinking between what Sheikh Sami Abi al-Mona is advocating and the initiative Samy Gemayel is promoting,” Hankach said. “Both call for a genuine national dialogue that’s inclusive, candid, and focused on rebuilding Lebanon from the ground up.”
