Beirut’s legal community elected attorney Imad Martinos as president of the Beirut Bar Association on Sunday, securing the position with 2,436 votes in a closely watched contest that drew one of the highest participation rates in years.
The vote capped a highly active day at the Beirut Justice Palace, where 5,293 lawyers cast ballots out of roughly 7,000 eligible voters. Lawyers gathered in large numbers to elect a new president and eight members of the Bar Council.
Martinos faced Elie Bazerli in the second-round runoff after candidate Wajih Massaad withdrew from the race. Earlier in the day, two Kataeb Party candidates scored notable wins: Maurice Gemayel secured a seat on the Bar Council, while Milad Al-Hakim won a seat on the Fund Committee.
The final tally for Bar Council membership reflected tight competition among leading candidates. According to the official results, Martinos topped the list with 3,010 votes, followed by Bazerli with 2,778 and Marwan Jabr with 2,559. Gemayel placed fourth with 1,966 votes, trailed by Nadim Hammadeh with 1,852, Elie Al-Hachach with 1,798, George Yazbek with 1,784, and Massaad with 1,755.
