Jreij: We Are Turning Into an Outlaw Country

Deputy Head of Kataeb Party Georges Jreij commented on yesterday’s presidential elections session saying that regardless of the questioner, but the session did not tolerate humor, and jokes.

“We are turning into an outlaw country. The Parliament Speaker has no right to answer a deputy in this sarcastic way in respect to the place firstly, and in respect to the occasion which is constitutional secondly,” Jreij said in an interview via Voice of Lebanon radio station.

“Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel posed a constitutional question relating to the basis of election sessions. Article 49 of the Constitution stipulates a twothirds majority of the Chamber of Deputies in the first ballot. After a first ballot, an absolute majority shall be sufficient. Berri is avoiding this point,” Jreij explained.

Jreij words came after Gemayel asked Berri during the fifth president election session about the constitutional articles in force to determine the conduct of sessions in terms of elections and determination of quorum.
