Issues Facing Lebanese Students in Egyptian Universities

The media office of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced in a statement that "the ministry has followed up on the issue of Lebanese students who faced problems with the acceptance of Lebanese school certificates at several Egyptian universities, in order to ensure that the exceptional circumstances surrounding the official exams in Lebanon do not affect the students' right to continue their university education."

It was noted that "the Lebanese embassy in Egypt contacted the Director General of Education, Fadi Yarak, to follow up on the issue and work on finding a quick solution that allows Lebanese students to complete their registration procedures and join their universities." The statement added: "According to what the Lebanese embassy in Cairo clarified, it had received, about 15 days ago, inquiries regarding a number of Lebanese students who had begun registration procedures at Egyptian universities, after facing an issue related to the acceptance of Lebanese school certificates. The ambassador, Halabi, immediately made contacts with the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities, headed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and with the Central Administration for Foreign Students Affairs, to present the case and explain the circumstances that led to the cancellation of the official exams in Lebanon and the issuance of certificates for students instead of official diplomas. The embassy clarified that the Egyptian side showed understanding of the circumstances that led to this situation, especially since the students were at risk of losing their academic year after incurring significant expenses for traveling to Egypt and securing housing. The official communications resulted in the acceptance of the registration of Lebanese students who hold certificates due to the cancellation of the official exams and the issuance of certificates in accordance with the law. The embassy also confirmed that this resolution came as a result of official communications and direct follow-up with the relevant Egyptian authorities."

The Ministry of Education confirmed that it "continues to follow up on this file in coordination with the relevant Lebanese and Egyptian authorities, based on its responsibility to protect the rights of Lebanese students and ensure that their educational journey is not disrupted due to the exceptional circumstances that the academic year has gone through, and to work on resolving any issues related to the documents issued by the ministry in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks."
