Israel’s military renewed evacuation warnings for parts of Beirut’s southern suburbs on Friday, as clashes with Hezbollah escalated across southern Lebanon.
After two days of uneasy calm, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee urged residents of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir and Shiyah to leave immediately, signaling a potential expansion of operations.
At dawn, Israeli Apache helicopters opened fire along the coastal stretch from Bayyada to Mansouri, using machine guns and missiles, as Hezbollah fighters attacked Israeli troops advancing in the Bayyada area toward the coastal road.
The Israeli military later released footage showing ground operations in southern Lebanon, saying troops had uncovered Hezbollah weapons and equipment, including firearms, vests and hand grenades.
The military said around 15 Hezbollah operatives were killed in a targeted airstrike carried out under the direction of the 146th Division. Troops from the 213th Artillery Brigade and the 226th Brigade identified the militants in their area of operations, prompting a rapid strike by the Israeli Air Force, according to the statement.
In a separate incident, the army said forces from the 213rd Artillery Regiment detected another Hezbollah cell preparing to launch anti-tank missiles toward Israel. A fighter jet was dispatched and carried out a strike, killing the operatives, the military said.
Elsewhere, Israeli warplanes struck a house between the towns of Kafra and Srifa, near a facility linked to the Islamic Health Authority. The strike ignited an ambulance parked nearby, though no casualties were reported.
Air raids also targeted the towns of Bint Jbeil, Hanine, Kounine and Tayri shortly after midnight, while intermittent artillery fire hit the eastern outskirts of Braachit at dawn. UNIFIL forces at their headquarters in Naqoura activated alarm sirens amid the escalating violence.
Israeli troops also detonated remaining structures in the border town of Ayta al-Shaab, with explosions heard as far away as the coastal city of Tyre.
Hezbollah, for its part, said on Thursday it had carried out 60 attacks over the past 24 hours targeting Israeli troops, settlements, vehicles and military sites. The group said it struck six communities in northern Israel, including Kiryat Shmona three times and Metula twice, as well as Even Menachem, Beit Hillel, Avivim and Nahariya.
The Iran-backed militia also reported targeting 40 gatherings of Israeli soldiers and vehicles—25 in southern Lebanese border areas and 15 inside northern Israel, including in Malkia, Metula, Yir’on and Avivim, along with the Kfar Giladi and Marj military sites.
Hezbollah said it fired a surface-to-air missile at an Israeli helicopter over the border town of Ramieh, forcing it to withdraw. It also claimed direct hits on two Merkava tanks near Khiam and Qantara, as well as on an Israeli D9 bulldozer in the Tahrir Triangle area.
In addition, the group said it struck seven military sites in northern Israel, including infrastructure in the Kiryat Ata area east of Haifa, the Krayot area north of the city and the town of Karmiel. Other targets included artillery positions in Khirbet Maaz and the Amiad, Filon and Dado military bases, the latter serving as headquarters for Israel’s Northern Command near Safed.
