Israeli Airstrike Targets Senior Hezbollah Aerial Unit Member

The Israeli military said it carried out an airstrike in southern Lebanon on Saturday, targeting a senior member of Hezbollah’s aerial unit, whom it accused of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon.

“A short while ago, the IAF (Israeli Air Force) conducted a precise and intelligence-based strike on a central terrorist in Hezbollah’s aerial unit in the area of southern Lebanon,” the military said in a statement.

“The terrorist was targeted after repeatedly violating the understandings between Israel and Lebanon over the past few weeks, including his role in leading the launch of UAVs (drones) towards Israeli territory.”

Lebanese state media reported that an Israeli strike on a vehicle in the Iqlim al-Tuffah area killed at least two people and wounded four others. The target was later identified by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz as Abbas Ahmad Hamoud, a Hezbollah operative involved in drone operations against Israel.

“As I warned, if there are drones, there will be no Hezbollah,” Katz said in a statement. “We will not allow drone launches toward Israel. The launch of the drones crosses a red line and is a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon.”

Hezbollah’s aerial unit, known as Unit 127, has been responsible for launching explosive-laden and surveillance drones at Israel, according to the Israeli army. The military said that during the ceasefire, Hezbollah continued to deploy surveillance drones, prompting Israeli retaliatory actions.
