Hezbollah Members Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Southern Lebanon

An Israeli airstrike on a home in the southern Lebanese town of Mayfadoun on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of five individuals, news agencies reported, citing medical and security sources.

Hezbollah confirmed the death of four of its members in the strike, including Amin Badreddine, the nephew of Mustafa Badreddine, Hezbollah's senior military commander who was killed in Syria in 2016 and who was also convicted in the assassination case of former PM Rafik Hariri.

The other slain individuals are Ali Mustafa Shamseddine, Hussein Ali Yassine, and Adham Hussein Nasser.

Later, the Israeli army issued a statement saying that the targeted building was used by Hezbollah operatives, noting that another building used by Hezbollah was struck in Khiam.

While recent exchanges of fire between the Israeli military and Hezbollah have largely been confined to the border area, the strike on Mayfadoun marks a significant escalation, knowing that this town is located nearly 30 kilometers north of Lebanon's border with Israel.
