Israel said Friday that its air force had struck crossings along the Lebanon-Syria border allegedly used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons into Lebanon. The Israeli military said the strikes targeted "crossing points in the area of the Lebanon-Syria border" used by the group.
"These activities constitute a blatant violation of the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon," the military said in a statement.
A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has been in place since November 27, following more than a year of hostilities, including two months of intense conflict.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, reported that the airstrikes disabled an “illegal crossing” near Wadi Khaled, a Lebanese town bordering Syria’s Homs province. The attack resulted in significant material damage and left several individuals wounded, the Observatory said.
The monitor’s director, Rami Abdel Rahman, said the strikes were launched after a convoy of suspected smugglers was seen moving from Syria into Lebanon. Several buildings and vehicles sustained heavy damage.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes were flying at low altitude over the northeastern Bekaa Valley, including the city of Hermel and nearby villages near the Syrian border.
