Israel Expands Air and Ground Operations in Southern Lebanon Amid Escalation

Israeli military operations intensified across southern Lebanon on Wednesday, with airstrikes, artillery bombardments and limited ground movements reported in several areas, while drones continued to fly over Beirut’s southern suburbs.

A video circulating on social media appeared to show a number of Israeli military vehicles, led by a D9 armored bulldozer and two Merkava tanks, advancing from the area of Rashaf toward the town of Haddatha in the Bint Jbeil district.

Meanwhile, Israeli fighter jets carried out extensive activity over southern Lebanon, particularly around Nabatiyeh and the Iqlim al-Tuffah region. Warplanes conducted mock air raids over the area, adding to already heightened security tensions.

Israeli aircraft later launched a series of strikes targeting several locations across the south. Airstrikes hit the town of Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa, the eastern outskirts of Kfar Tebnit, and the Zafata-Mansoura area near the town. Additional raids were reported in the towns of Braachit and Mansouri.

No immediate information was available regarding casualties or the extent of the damage from the strikes, although local reports suggested Israeli forces may have attempted to advance through Kfar Tebnit in the Nabatiyeh district.

Israeli artillery shelling also continued throughout the day, targeting areas surrounding the Teachers’ Training Institute at the Nabatiyeh-Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa junction, as well as the Qatrani and Sajd areas in the Jezzine district and the town of Majdal Zoun.

Further artillery strikes were reported on the Jabal Rafih area overlooking Aramta in the Jezzine district, while sporadic shelling continued to hit Kfar Tebnit and Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa.

The escalation followed a night of heavy bombardment in southern Lebanon. Israeli artillery maintained what local reports described as intense and concentrated shelling of the Ali al-Taher forested area on the outskirts of  Nabatiyeh  al-Fawqa from overnight hours into Wednesday morning.

At around 5 a.m., shells struck areas near the Nabih Berri Governmental Hospital in Nabatiyeh , including the building of the Taqaddom al-Mara charitable association. Several other rounds landed near the hospital, as well as in the Midan and Rahibat neighborhoods inside the city. There was no immediate confirmation of casualties or the scale of the damage.

In a separate incident, Israeli forces opened fire on a vehicle near the Ain area on the outskirts of Kfar Shouba, wounding one person.

Meanwhile, an explosion reported in Ansariyeh, near Adloun in the Sidon district, was initially linked to an Israeli drone. Subsequent investigations indicated that a suicide drone had struck an Israeli drone that had crashed into a tree several days earlier because of a technical malfunction. The collision caused both drones to explode, damaging a nearby parked vehicle but causing no injuries.

Local reports also said that at approximately 6:30 a.m., an Israeli booby-trapped drone crashed in an open area near the Hussein Taleb restaurant in Ansariyeh, resulting only in material damage.

On the ground, Israeli forces reportedly carried out another maneuver in the town of Khiyam in the Marjayoun district before withdrawing toward the Sarda and Amra areas south of the town. Local reports said the movement could be part of a broader redeployment of Israeli troops operating in the region.

Sources in southern Lebanon also reported that an Israeli helicopter landed Wednesday morning at Beaufort Castle, known locally as Qalaat al-Shaqif. The helicopter was reportedly designated for medical evacuation missions and arrived as Israeli warplanes flew at extremely low altitude over the area.
