U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott commented on a Reuters report regarding Iran sending money to Hezbollah.
He said: "Hezbollah has every incentive to promote such narratives through anonymous sources. It can claim whatever it wants, but the money does not exist. Hezbollah has suffered devastating blows, causing suffering for hundreds of thousands of innocent Lebanese. It is now trying to save face through false narratives about a flow of money from Iran. Iran's oil exports are under siege, its currency is in rapid decline, and the regime is looking over its shoulder in fear."
He added: "The United States will continue to choke off Hezbollah's funding sources through sanctions, alongside supporting the legitimate Lebanese government's ability to rebuild the south. Hezbollah has brought nothing but misery to Lebanon and the people it claims to represent. It has ignited a war on behalf of Tehran, causing billions of dollars in damage. Even if this alleged compensation amount were real, it would not be sufficient."
He concluded: "Under President Trump's administration, Hezbollah will never be able to regain its strength or rebuild its terrorist infrastructure."
