The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in partnership with the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC), has initiated a large-scale humanitarian operation to distribute food parcels to approximately 8,000 families across 55 regions within a 5-kilometer range from the Blue Line in southern Lebanon.
This initiative is aimed at providing essential relief to families impacted by ongoing tensions, economic challenges, and instability in the region.
The distribution, which began on May 27, marks a significant step in a broader, long-term effort to support vulnerable communities in southern Lebanon.
Shady Ramadan, the Head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Tyr, emphasized the organization’s commitment to aiding those in need during these difficult times.
“We are deeply committed to supporting the people living in southern Lebanon during these challenging and difficult times,” he stated.
“Our cooperation with the Governor, the municipalities, and the Lebanese Red Cross enables us to reach and assist many families, ensuring that those in need receive help in a timely manner. This is made possible by our commitment to neutrality and our acceptance, which was built over the years.”
The Lebanese Red Cross underscored the significance of this joint operation, with a spokesperson stating that the Lebanese Red Cross is supporting families within a 5 and 10-kilometer range from the Blue Line in southern Lebanon, in collaboration with the ICRC, IFRC, Kuwaiti Red Crescent, Qatari Red Crescent, and Iraqi Red Crescent.
This initiative is part of an ongoing response by the ICRC and the LRC to mitigate the impact of the multifaceted crisis and escalations in southern Lebanon. Beyond the distribution of food parcels, the ICRC continues to support health services, water projects, and other essential programs to address the diverse needs of the affected communities.
