Houthi Training Centers May Reopen in Lebanon’s Hermel Under IRGC Supervision, Reports Say

Houthi training centers could reopen at Hezbollah-affiliated camps in Lebanon’s Hermel area under the supervision of officers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to information circulating about the reported activity.

The reports suggest that military training in the Bekaa Valley has continued, placing the possible reopening within a longstanding network of cooperation between Hezbollah and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement.

The relationship extends beyond military coordination to include media training, the exchange of expertise and support for Houthi media operations, an Annahar reported said. Hezbollah trainers have also been present in Yemen, according to the information cited.

A 2024 report by the United Nations Panel of Experts on Yemen documented that Houthi fighters had received military training at a Hezbollah-affiliated facility in southern Lebanon. It also said Houthi media figures had attended Hezbollah military parades.

The report identified the Houthis’ liaison office in Beirut as overseeing training and other forms of support, and cited Ammar al-Hamzi, whom it described as Al-Masirah television’s director-general and the Houthis’ representative in Lebanon.

Lebanon has also played a role in developing the Houthis’ media operations. Al-Masirah initially launched from Beirut before moving its broadcasts to Sanaa, although its office in Lebanon reportedly remains part of the movement’s media and political communications network.

Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, host media institutions and platforms linked to the wider Iran-aligned axis. Cooperation between Hezbollah and the Houthis in this field has included the exchange of expertise in training personnel and managing media messaging, alongside their military coordination.
