Hochstein Optimistic on Potential Ceasefire Deal in Lebanon

U.S. President Joe Biden's senior adviser Amos Hochstein expressed optimism on Tuesday about the possibility of reaching a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, Axios reported.

“I think there is a shot at securing a ceasefire deal in Lebanon soon," Hochstein reportedly told reporters at the White House following a meeting with Israel's Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

Dermer presented Israel’s updated stance on the proposed ceasefire, which remains under consideration. Hochstein said that the U.S. is now waiting for a response from the Lebanese side, adding that another trip to the region may not be necessary to finalize the deal.

Hochstein also clarified that there would be no Russian involvement in the ceasefire agreement, addressing recent reports suggesting that Israel was seeking Moscow’s assistance to prevent Iran from transferring weapons to Hezbollah through Syria after a ceasefire takes effect.

“I am hopeful we can get it,” he added, without providing further details on ongoing negotiations or potential terms.
