Kataeb: Hezbollah’s Rhetoric Contradicts Lebanese Shiites’ Will, Serves Iran’s Interests Alone

The Kataeb’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Party President Samy Gemayel. After discussing recent political and security developments, the Bureau issued the following statement:

1. The Political Bureau strongly condemns statements by Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem, in which he threatened a civil war in Lebanon and the destruction of the country if the party’s weapons were challenged. The Bureau considers these remarks as a direct assault on national peace and a serious threat to the security of all Lebanese.

The Kataeb Party reiterates its rejection of Iran’s ongoing interference in Lebanese affairs, noting that Qassem’s position aligns with statements by Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who seeks to safeguard Tehran’s interests. These statements do not reflect the will of Lebanon’s Shiite community and disregard the country’s national interest.

2. The Political Bureau stresses that the only legitimate framework for discussions on the State's arms control is through constitutional institutions. It emphasizes the need to fully implement the Cabinet decision requiring the Army Command to submit an operational plan for disarmament, as a prerequisite for approval within the set timeframe.

In this context, the Political Bureau reaffirms its support for the steps taken by the President and Prime Minister, particularly the demand that Israel, through the U.S. mediator, begin its withdrawal from Lebanese occupied territories without delay. The Bureau also calls on all Lebanese to rally around legitimacy and support it during this critical juncture that the country is facing, addressing especially parliamentary blocs that have endorsed the principle of exclusive State control over arms when questioned by Party President MP Samy Gemayel during a recent speech at Parliament,
