Kataeb: Hezbollah Calls to Topple Government Aim to Shift Blame for Lebanon War

The Kataeb's political bureau convened its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel to discuss the latest developments and issued the following statement:

1- The Political Bureau considers Hezbollah’s calls to topple the government as a clear attempt to deflect responsibility for the war that Lebanon endured under the pretext of “supporting Iran.” What is required instead is accountability for those who dragged the country into a cycle of destruction, displacement, and death outside the framework of State institutions and in violation of the Constitution and the social pact among Lebanese citizens.

The continued existence of any weapons outside the authority of the State is unacceptable, as such arms have proven to be the primary obstacle to stability, national unity, and the restoration of the State’s full authority.

2- Regarding the US–Iran deal, the Political Bureau stresses that it is strictly confined to its two signatories and has no direct bearing on Lebanon, as it represents an understanding between Tehran and Washington that must be viewed solely in that context.

Lebanon is not bound by any agreement unless it is concluded through the Lebanese State and its legitimate, democratically elected institutions, via officials formally mandated to negotiate on its behalf in Washington, whose mission is to restore sovereignty and free national decision-making, secure Israeli withdrawal and an end to violations, and advance the implementation of government decisions to place all weapons under State authority and fully restore security control.

3- The Political Bureau calls on the Lebanese State, once a comprehensive ceasefire is firmly in place, to ensure that the assessment and documentation of damage and destruction are conducted exclusively through legitimate State institutions, foremost among them the Lebanese Army.

It also calls on the government, based on a proposal by the Minister of Justice, to request that the Islamic Republic of Iran compensate Lebanese citizens in line with the scale of damages incurred as a result of a war imposed on Lebanon; one in which it had no stake and over which it had no sovereign decision.
It further stresses that any international assistance for reconstruction or compensation must be channeled exclusively through Lebanese State institutions.

4- The Political Bureau extends its greetings to Muslims in Lebanon and around the world on the occasion of the Islamic New Year, expressing hope that the occasion will bring greater stability, security, and peace to Lebanon and its people.
