Hezbollah Calls for Reassessment by State and Military Amid Alarming Developments in Southern Lebanon

The Lebanese Army condemned Israel’s continued violations of the ceasefire agreement, citing an Israeli military incursion into southern Lebanon on Thursday. According to the army, Israeli forces entered several southern areas, including Qantara, Adchit al-Qusayr, and Wadi al-Hujeir, violating Lebanon’s sovereignty and exacerbating tensions in the region.

In response to the incursions, the Lebanese Army said it has bolstered its presence in these areas and is coordinating closely with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) as well as the Mechanism Committee which oversees the implementation of the ceasefire agreement. The army has also expressed concerns over the Israeli military’s ongoing destructive actions, which include the targeting of southern villages and towns.

Israeli military vehicles reportedly advanced into the town of Qantara, located in the Marjeyoun district, and into the Wadi al-Hujeir region early on Thursday. In addition, Israeli bulldozers constructed an earth barrier that cut off the road between Wadi al-Slouqi and Wadi al-Hujeir. The Israeli forces also removed the road sign marking the entrance to the town of Qabrikhah.

In response, the Lebanese Army shut down the road leading to Wadi al-Hujeir from its checkpoint at Qa’qaiyat al-Jisr Bridge. Meanwhile, Israeli Merkava tanks were observed patrolling the valley, while Israeli forces conducted intensive operations to comb the area’s forested terrain.

By the afternoon, reports indicated that Israeli forces had withdrawn three Merkava tanks and two bulldozers from Wadi al-Hujeir, heading back toward Wadi al-Slouqi.

Ali Fayad, a member of Hezbollah's Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc, condemned the Israeli incursion as “a highly dangerous development” that threatens the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He also warned that the incursion undermines the credibility of the committee tasked with overseeing the resolution’s enforcement.

Fayad further emphasized that Israel’s actions, which reflect a blatant disregard for international commitments, require an immediate reevaluation of Lebanon’s approach. He criticized the Lebanese government, military, and relevant authorities for failing to effectively prevent Israel from continuing its aggressive actions, including incursions into Lebanese territory and the detention and killing of Lebanese civilians.
