Kataeb MP Elias Hankach said Tuesday that an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon would give President Joseph Aoun a stronger negotiating position, expressing support for the president's diplomatic efforts ahead of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speaking to Al Mashhad Media platform, Hankach said there is broad political and public backing for Aoun to continue direct negotiations aimed at securing Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territory, arguing that such an outcome had eluded Hezbollah.

"There is broad popular and political support around the president to move forward with direct negotiations to secure Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon, something Hezbollah was unable to achieve, and to move the country toward a phase of stability," he said.

Hankach said Aoun would raise all of the Lebanese government's concerns during his talks in Washington, where the president is expected to meet Trump.

He also argued that the regional landscape had shifted, noting that Hezbollah did not intervene during the first 10 days of the conflict between Iran and the United States.

"Today, the equation has changed thanks to President Aoun's insistence on preserving Lebanon's independence and separating the Lebanese negotiating track from the Iranian one," Hankach said.

He added that the results of Aoun's meeting with Trump would help define the next phase, stressing that "our duty is to work in Lebanon's interest."

Hankach voiced full support for Aoun's visit to the United States, saying all Lebanese reject remaining "hostages" to the current situation and expressing hope that the talks would advance Lebanon's national interests and stability.
