Hankach Says Lines of Communication Are Open with All Opposition Forces

Kataeb lawmaker Elias Hankach affirmed the participation of his party in Today’s parliamentary session to elect a new president, saying that it is an opportunity “to pick a Lebanese president”.

“Lines of communication are open with all opposition forces and we hope that the stances would show up in the upcoming hours. The least we can do is to participate in this president election session,”  Hankach said in an interview with LBCI.

“A large group will nominate MP Michel Mouawad for the presidency while the forces of change will nominate candidate Salah Hanin, who has all the specifications,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that the issue was a matter of numbers, saying that consensus requires time and circumstances require everyone to compromise within the same opinion.

“Our goal is to unite the opposition around one candidate. The Lebanese people are waiting for the opposition to unite, and we are certainly trying to mobilize votes in favor of MP Michel Mouawad,” Hankach said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station.

“The opponents have no choice but to unite around one candidate and pick a Lebanese  president who will save the country,” he affirmed.

Hankach said that the Kataeb party's concern was to get out of the crisis as this country must be preserved.

“We will not spare any effort to preserve our presence and our role in this country through this fateful entitlement,” he concluded.
