When Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced his country’s shift toward direct political negotiations with Israel in April, he upended the political reality that had governed Lebanon for four decades. For the first time in many years, Beirut is present at the negotiating table as a sovereign state, rather than a battleground for geopolitical competition. This is far more important than a technical border settlement; it amounts to a permanent attempt to resolve the question of whether Lebanon is a nation ruled by its own elected government, or functions merely as a proxy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Kataeb Political Bureau Member Alain Hakim stressed that the October revolution marked the awakening of Lebanese awareness regarding their neglected rights and the systemic corruption plaguing the country.
“However, the revolution’s failure was the result of the relentless deterrence of the system's leaders and its security apparatus coupled with fake news and brutal attacks on the protesters,” Hakim noted.
“Not to mention the burden of the fabricated economic crisis to suppress the anger of the citizens and distract them by securing their daily needs. The only way for the system remains in wasting time and dissolving the crises until they are forgotten,” he concluded.
