Hakim: Kataeb Party Insists on a Democratic Presidential Election, Will Not Accept a “March 8” Candidate

Former Economy Minister Dr. Alain Hakim said on Wednesday that the Kataeb party was definite regarding its stance on upholding constitutional entitlements.

“The bedrock for preventing the collapse of crisis-hit Lebanon is the election of the Republic's president. We are adamant about respecting the future entitlement and the republic's president being chosen democratically,” Hakim stressed in an interview with The Greater Lebanon.

“We will never accept a “March 8” camp candidate and we will do whatever it takes, under law, to prevent the said from being brought to presidency,” he added.

Hakim noted that the Kataeb was continuously in contact with the opposition both locally and overseas aiming at creating a balanced parliamentary front.
