Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel on Saturday marked the anniversary of the election of slain president-elect Bachir Gemayel, by vowing to continue the struggle for the Lebanon he envisioned.
In a post on X, Gemayel said Bachir had assumed office with a clear mission: to end the wars ravaging Lebanon and to lay the foundations of a just and powerful state.
“Bachir Gemayel rose to the presidency with a clear vision: to end the wars on Lebanese soil and to build a just and strong state. In just 21 days, he overturned the prevailing notion of the ‘farm-state’ and put forward the project of one army and one nation,” Gemayel wrote.
He added that the anniversary of Bachir’s election was an opportunity to reaffirm Kataeb’s continued commitment to that path.
“His election anniversary is a moment to reaffirm that we remain committed to the struggle to achieve the Lebanon he envisioned,” Gemayel said.
Bachir Gemayel was elected president on August 23, 1982, but was assassinated 22 days later, before he could assume office.
