Gemayel Urges Accelerated Parliamentary Action on Reform Laws in Talks With EU Delegation

Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met a delegation of ambassadors, chargés d'affaires and diplomats from the European Union and several friendly countries, with talks focusing on Lebanon's reform agenda, including financial reforms, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program and judicial independence.

The meeting was held at the Kataeb Party's headquarters in Beirut's Saifi district and was led by EU Ambassador to Lebanon Sandra De Waele.

According to a statement issued by the party, the discussions centered on a series of reform laws, particularly financial reforms tied to Lebanon's recovery efforts, the IMF program, and judicial reforms aimed at strengthening the independence of the judiciary.

Participants described judicial reform and judicial independence as fundamental pillars of the State, essential to ensuring justice and restoring confidence in Lebanon's public institutions.

The talks also covered a range of political and reform-related issues.

During the meeting, Gemayel reaffirmed the Kataeb Party's support for the reforms and legislation needed to address Lebanon's multiple crises, stressing the importance of passing them without delay to advance the country's economic recovery and strengthen state institutions.

He also underscored the need to improve Parliament's legislative process to accelerate the adoption of reform laws and enhance the effectiveness of parliamentary work.

The meeting concluded with a broader exchange of views between Gemayel and the diplomatic delegation on political developments, reform priorities and other issues of mutual interest.

The delegation included Bulgarian Ambassador to Lebanon Iassen Tomov, Cypriot Ambassador to Lebanon Maria Hadjitheodosiou, and diplomats Rosanna Toumankova, Camilla Anttila, Jeremy Humer, Mateusz Leziak, Jasper Kapteijn, Gonzalo Moro, Christian Pielson, Roman Klvaňa, Victoria Dunn, Rodion Otyrov, Alice Klesal, and Pamela Greenwell.

Also attending the meeting were MP Salim Sayegh, Kataeb Vice President Bernard Gerbaka, Political Bureau member and former minister Alain Hakim, Political Bureau members Zeina Hobeika and Ghassan Abou Jaoudeh, Head of Foreign Affairs Department Marwan Abdallah, Head of Legislation and Public Policy Department Lara Saade, Head of the Economic Council Naji Sfeir, and Foreign Affairs Coordinator Anthony Bou Abboud.
