Kataeb Party leader, MP Samy Gemayel, expressed hope that today's presidential election session would send a positive message, emphasizing the need to unite, foster love, and open a new chapter among the Lebanese.
Speaking before the presidential voting session, Gemayel stressed the importance of building on the foundations of the state, respecting the law, equality, and recognizing others and their history.
He called for working together differently, rejecting the logic of betrayal and dominance from the other side, and stated that the country has been severely damaged.
He warned against responding in kind to the other party’s approach, emphasizing the desire to build a true rule-of-law state and hoped for a fresh start, with a commitment to cooperation.
He noted that the Lebanese constitution has been sidelined for 20 years, urging a transition from lawlessness to statehood, with a focus on cooperation, equality, and respect for the law.
Gemayel stressed the need for unity in rebuilding Lebanon, avoiding exclusion and conflict, also stating that this is a foundational moment in Lebanon’s history, requiring partnership from all.
He reiterated that the goal is to create a new chapter for Lebanon, with all forces working together.
The next steps, he noted, depend on a leader who can garner international support and engage with the Lebanese.
He also mentioned his positive discussions with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, hoping for continued collaboration for the benefit of the nation.
