Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel on Tuesday said Lebanon has a historic opportunity to restore its sovereignty and reassert the authority of the State, urging President Joseph Aoun to build on the momentum generated by his meetings in Washington.

In a post on X following Aoun's talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and senior U.S. officials, Gemayel said Lebanon now has a rare chance to present a unified national position to the international community.

"For the first time in many years, Lebanon has the opportunity to speak to the world with one voice: the voice of the state," Gemayel wrote.

He said he was counting on Aoun to seize what he described as a historic moment and secure "a sovereign, peaceful, and prosperous future for Lebanon and for generations to come."

"This is a moment that cannot be missed," Gemayel said. "It requires courage, determination, and decisive action."

He outlined what he described as the essential steps toward that goal: the full implementation of the agreement, the complete disarmament of Hezbollah, Israel's full withdrawal from Lebanese territory, strengthening the Lebanese Armed Forces, and restoring the State's exclusive authority over every inch of Lebanese territory.

Gemayel also thanked Trump for his support for Lebanon, praising the U.S. president's commitment to helping the country achieve "a just and lasting peace."

"Thank you, President Donald J. Trump, for your commitment to helping Lebanon achieve a just and lasting peace," Gemayel wrote.

He added that he looked forward to continued U.S. support for Lebanon's sovereignty, security, and stability.
