Gemayel Says Kataeb Party Will Not Participate in the Upcoming Government

Kataeb lawmaker Nadim Gemayel on Saturday stressed that the results of the parliamentary elections were clear, but some deputies do not want to translate this popular choice into political results, saying that the presidency and the election of a new president are the basis.

"Christians do not have the right to withdraw from national political life and refuse to nominate a Sunni prime minister. The problem is not Najib Mikati's reelection, but rather wasting the opportunity to achieve change. The Lebanese people bet on us to achieve change but we missed that opportunity as we did not unite in our stances, additionally no one is ready for confrontation," Gemayel said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station.

Gemayel pointed out that the Kataeb party would not participate in the upcoming government.

"We will be setting its policies, monitoring and keeping up with it in all developments. We seek a non-political government that does not represent Hezbollah because as long as Aoun is the current president and is protecting this armed militia, its weapons, and its regional role, Lebanon would not benefit from any fund," he noted.

"You became deputies so you must know how to play in the Lebanese political life. There are many deputies who have the same vision as yours. Coordinate and communicate with them," Gemayel said addressing the newly elected opposition deputies.

The Kataeb lawmaker also thanked every person who has voted for him in May legislative elections, stressing that he would stick to his principles and would not betray his trust.
