Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel, considered that 'Hezbollah has been attempting for 15 years to take control of Lebanon, and it succeeded previously in 2016 by imposing a president and taking control of state institutions.'
“The battle now is about putting an end to Hezbollah's practices, as it managed to seize state institutions by delivering President Michel Aoun. If it succeeds in doing so again, this will have significant repercussions on Lebanon's democratic culture,” Gemayel said in an interview with Hala London TV.
“We must take advantage of the rebellion against Hezbollah. A temporary intersection exists with the Free Patriotic Movement, and we hope it evolves into a strategic intersection to return to the situation in 2005 regarding the implementation of international decisions and other sovereign issues,” he pointed out.
“Our candidate is Michel Mouawad. If Hezbollah's team wishes to engage in a new approach and withdraw the nomination of Frangieh, we will resort to the democratic process and propose acceptable names,” he went on saying.
Regarding the issue of Syrian refugees, he called for “assessing their status to determine the eligibility of each Syrian to return. After classifying them, we can take the necessary measures”.
“'There is no doubt that Bashar al-Assad will not facilitate their return, therefore, we expect the Arab and international community to exert pressure in this direction,” he said.
The Kataeb Leader emphasized "the impossibility of normalization with Syria, in the absence of a mediator to address the fundamental problems, between the two countries”.
