Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel on Friday marked the 19th anniversary of the assassination of his brother, former minister and MP Pierre Gemayel, invoking his legacy and underscoring the party’s continued push to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty.
In a post on X, Gemayel said that although nearly two decades have passed since Pierre was shot dead in Jdeideh in 2006, his absence is felt “every day,” and his influence remains “stronger than ever.”
“Nineteen years, and not a single day have you been absent,” he wrote. “But today, your presence feels stronger than ever.”
Gemayel said he wished his brother were alive to witness what he described as the early signs of Lebanon “reclaiming its decision-making and its sovereignty."
He added that Pierre had charted a clear path rooted in “freedom, sovereignty, and Lebanon first,” values the Kataeb Party still upholds.
“We will not stop,” Gemayel said.
