What to Watch as Anti-Regime Protests Engulf Iran
The Iranian regime appears to be at its weakest point in its nearly half century in power. For the past two weeks, Iranians throughout the country have taken to the streets in protest over Iran’s deepening economic crises, stirring up memories of the Mahsa Amini protests of 2022-2023 and the Green Movement demonstrations of 2009-2010. This is compounded by a record level of inflation, a potentially existential water crisis, and an open admission from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that his government is incapable of meeting the needs of its own people. Moreover, these protests follow a series of strategic setbacks for the regime, including Israel’s near destruction of Iran’s foreign proxies, the Assad regime’s fall in Syria in December 2024, and the devastation of the twelve-day war in June 2025.

Yet for all its length and theatrical confidence, the speech was as hollow as Hezbollah’s long-claimed commitment to “protecting Lebanon.” What was presented as reassurance sounded instead like repetition without substance, conviction without credibility, and certainty divorced from reality.

Gemayel Blasts Qassem's Iran Stance: “Leave Lebanon Out of It!”
Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel on Monday lashed out at Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem after he warned that the group would not stay neutral if Iran came under attack.
In a post on X, Gemayel delivered a blunt rebuke to Qassem’s remarks, which signaled Hezbollah’s readiness to join any regional confrontation involving Tehran.
“If you want to defend your supreme leader, go to him. If you want to commit suicide, do it on your own. Just leave Lebanon out of it!” Gemayel wrote.
