Gemayel after Withdrawal of Kataeb Bloc from Parliamentary Session: This Session Aims at Creating Sectarian Conflict Between Lebanese

Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel on Thursday referred to article 75 of the Lebanese Consitution in a bid to urge the parliamentary blocs to expedite the election of a new Head of State.

“Article 75: The Chamber meeting to elect the President of the Republic shall be considered an electoral body and not a legislative assembly. It must proceed immediately, without discussion of any other act, to elect the Head of the State,” Gemayel said after the withdrawal of the Kataeb Bloc from the parliamentary session devoted to discussing President Michel Aoun's letter regarding the resignation of the government.

“This session aims at creating sectarian conflict between Lebanese because what it is required is to drag the country into tensions. We, as Kataeb Party, withdrew from this session and refused it according to the Lebanese Constitution and politics,” he stressed.

Kataeb Leader called for holding president election session every single day in a bid to elect a new Head of State.

“We recall that in France, which was applying the same system, the president election sessions lasted for 6 consecutive days to elect a president of the republic. Therefore, the same thing must be done in Lebanon,” Gemayel affirmed.
