Lebanese Army Seizes 245 Kg of TNT in Attempted Smuggling From Syria

The Lebanese army seized about 245 kilograms of highly explosive TNT along with explosive devices and detonators as they were being smuggled from Syria into Lebanon, the military said Thursday.

The seizure was made on Oct. 1 following surveillance and monitoring operations along Lebanon's northern and eastern borders, according to a statement from the Army Command.

An army unit intercepted the shipment, which included four explosive devices, eight detonators and electrical wires used with explosives, the statement said.

The smugglers fled toward Syrian territory when an army patrol arrived at the location, it added.

The seized materials were handed over to the relevant authorities, while security agencies are coordinating efforts to identify and arrest those involved, the army said.
